In order to encourage more overseas Chinese students to study in Taiwan, there are a lot of scholarships for them to apply so that they can study in Taiwan without financial burden.



Apart from the scholarships provided by various universities, the Ministry of Education, the Overseas Community Affairs Council, the Overseas Chinese Association and the Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations also offer scholarships of up to NTD300,000 and financial aids for outstanding overseas Chinese students.

Different scholarships or financial aids for overseas Chinese students:

Ministry of Education (MoE)

1. Outstanding Overseas Chinese Student Scholarship
Eligibility
  1. Admitted through the "united distribution" channel of University Entrance Committee For Overseas Chinese Students, and ranked the top 5 in the distribution assessment score and within the top 1% of all applicants in the group;
  2. awarded a gold, silver, bronze medal in Olympia Competition or rank top 4 in US International Science and Engineering Fair.
Amount of Award
NTD150,000 (around USD5,357)


Conditions for Renewal
Within the normative study period, the students may continue to get NTD120,000 (around USD4,286) per academic year if his/her academic performance scores above 85 or ranks top 10% in class.

2. Elite Overseas Chinese Student Scholarship
Eligibility
  1. Eligible as MoE’s Outstanding Overseas Chinese Students, and achieved an excellent academic performance at local’s most renowned high school. Study plan and other required documents must be submitted for MoE’s assessment;
  2. awarded a gold, silver, bronze medal in Olympia Competition or rank top 4 in US International Science and Engineering Fair.
Amount of Award
NTD300,000 (around USD10,714)


Conditions for Application
Within the normative study period, the students may continue to get NTD300,000 (around USD10,714) per academic year if his/her academic performance scores above 85 or ranks top 10% in class.

3. Grants for Overseas Chinese Students in Financial Need

Eligibility
  1. With low-income certificates issued by recognized parties or proof of his/her poor living conditions in Taiwan;
  2. Undergraduates: Year 2 students or above got a pass in the overall academic performance in previsous year, and without record of misconduct; whereas Year 1 students are exempted.
Amount of Award
About NTD36,000 per year (around USD1,286)


Conditions for Application
Awardees of other scholarships or grants from Taiwan government cannot apply.

Overseas Community Affairs Council

1. Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Performance for Overseas Chinese Students
Eligibility
Year 2 or above, with the average academic performance and the conduct in the previous school year scores above 80.


Amount of Award
NTD50,000 (around USD1,786)


Conditions for Application
Awardees must provide a 5-minute video or a 500-word article about their learning experience in Taiwan.

2. Scholarship for Excellent Academic Performance and Conduct for Overseas Chinese Students
Eligibility
Year 2 or above, with the average academic performance and the conduct in the previous school year scores above 80.

3. Donation Scholarship
Every year, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee receives donations from different parties to fund scholarship for overseas Chinese students. The eligibility and amount of each subsidy may vary. Some will give priority to disadvantaged overseas Chinese students, while some are limited to postgraduate applications.

The average academic performance scores 75 – 80 and the conduct scores A.

Eligibility
