If you are an overseas Chinese student, and got admitted in any full-time degree programs in Taiwanese universities or colleges, you will need to obtain a “Resident Visa” before entering Taiwan.

Resident Visa

There is no "Student Visa" in Taiwan, instead, there is "Resident Visa" and "Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)". If you are holding a non-Taiwanese passport, the resident visa will allow you to enter Taiwan, while the ARC will allow you to stay in Taiwan to undertake college study.

Here is the procedure for obtaining a resident visa after being admitted by a Taiwanese university or college:

After you have received the notification of admission or an admission permit from a Taiwanese university or college, you need to apply for a resident visa at the nearest ROC Embassies and Missions Abroad before entering Taiwan. In general, a resident visa is valid for 3 months, and is usually used for single entry only. The normal processing time is 3 days.
