University Entrance Committee For Overseas Chinese Students (UECOCS) provides the easiest way for you to pursue higher study in Taiwan. With only one registration, you are able to apply up to 70 desired programs at the same time, and based on your personal preference, distribution assessment scores and recruiting quota, you will be distributed into an appropriate university.

Eligibility

If you are a graduate of the local 6-year high school system, as long as you meet the following two criteria, and validated by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), you are qualified for being an overseas Chinese student and eligible to join the university recruitment exercise provided by UECOCS:
  1. You were born and stayed abroad until now, or have remained abroad for the last 6 consecutive years (or 8 years if you are applying to study at the Medical, Dental or Chinese Medicine Departments
  2. You possess a permanent or long-term residence certificate at an overseas country.
There are 5 enrollment channels for overseas Chinese students to pursue tertiary studies in Taiwan.

For Undergraduate programs

Channel 1: Individual Application
"Individual Application" is an exam-free recruitment channel provided by UECOCS. You do not need to take any extra examination for the recruitment, yet you will be assessed individually by your applied departments based on your performance in specialized subjects and recommendation from your senior high school teachers. In this channel, you can fill in 4 department choices at your preference. If you fail to be admitted through Individual Application, you will automatically enter the United Distribution channel without submitting a new application again.

Channel 2: United Distribution
“United Distribution" is a joint placement for bachelor’s degree programs in Taiwan. It is suitable for students who have excellent learning outcomes in public exams. You will be assessed by your academic results in the last 3 years of high school, SAT Subject test score, A-Level test score or IBDP test score. Any awards of International Mathematical Olympiad or Intel International Science and Engineering Fair will add an advantage to your application. In this channel, you can select at maximum 70 programs priorities. The final distribution will be based on your distribution assessment score and the recruiting quota of the applied departments. If you fail to be admitted in any chosen departments, you will be automatically distributed to the Division of Preparatory Programs offered by National Taiwan Normal University.

Channel 3: Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students offered by National Taiwan Normal University
If you fail to achieve the minimum admission standards set by UECOCS, or the applied departments are unavailable, you will be dispatched to Division of Preparatory Programs for a half-year or one-year university prerequisite course to lay a solid foundation for basic subjects. If you meet the requirements for study completion, you can then be distributed to universities in Taiwan.

Channel 4: University Individual Recruitment
If you miss the “Individual Application” and “United Distribution” channels organized by UECOCS, or fail to be admitted, you can join the recruitment organized by individual universities. Application eligibility, selection method and application date are determined by each school. Generally speaking, the recruitment period of the first stage is during November and December, while the second stage is in April of the following year. Students can contact the universities they want to apply directly for details or refer to the UECOCS website.

It should be noted that if you are admitted through university's "Individual Recruitment", you cannot accept UECOCS’s "Individual Application" or "United Distribution" placement; and vice versa.

For Postgraduate programs

Channel 5: Master’s or Doctoral programs
If you possess a Bachelor or Master’s degree, you can apply for the Master’s or doctoral programs at any graduate schools in Taiwan. The normative study period of a Master’s program ranges from 1 to 4 years, while the normative study period of a doctoral program ranges from 2 to 7 years. You will be awarded a Master’s or Doctoral Degree after you have fulfilled the graduation requirement.
